According to the most recent surveys about children's' psychomotor development, one in five children need help to develop fully.

The difference between the psychomotor development of children starting the first class may be up to five years. In our education system these differences can double until 18 years old.

According to economic calculations, investment in early child development generates far higher financial returns than investment in highway constructions or in small and medium companies.

Regarding development, only 26 out of 100 children are considered to have the correct fourth grade skills. The others are either ahead or behind.

Experience has proved that assistance given to children to help their development is more efficient the younger the child is.

"If art, music and physical education would have been
the leading subjects in the general school curriculum,
undoubtedly the children with learning disabilities are going to be different
from those we are dealing with today. "
Geschwind, 1984

Children under 6 years old need educational programmes which promote their physical, mental and social development as well as academic skills. These programmes have significant economic value to the family and society as well as the individual since they prevent the aggravation of disabling conditions. (UNESCO, 1994)

The information is the biggest help in the development of the children with disabilities. The knowledge and the communication between the professionals and the parents are the keys to the success.

All parents should have the right to learn more about the development of their child and about any reasons behind slow development. This is the principle of a good relationship between professionals and parents. A professional duty is to explain to parents the diagnosis of their child and to discuss therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises with them.
